Can I play at an Ontario online casino if I live in Ottawa specifically?
getting-started · Last reviewed June 19, 2026
Ottawa residents have full access to Ontario's regulated online casino market — your city makes no difference whatsoever. The market is province-wide, and eligibility comes down to two things: being physically located in Ontario when you play, and being 19 or older.
As of April 4, 2022, operators that completed the AGCO's registration process and signed an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario can offer their regulated games to eligible Ontarians of legal age. Ottawa is as much "Ontario" as Toronto, Thunder Bay, or anywhere else — there is no city-by-city carve-out in the framework.
The two things that actually determine eligibility
Where you are when you play, not where you live. Players can open a new account or access an existing account with a regulated operator when they are not physically located in Ontario — however, they cannot place wagers on any of those accounts while not physically located in Ontario. So if you drive to Gatineau for the afternoon, you'd need to wait until you're back across the river. Day-to-day in Ottawa, you're fine.
Age. You must be 19 years of age or older to participate in all internet gaming products conducted and managed by iGaming Ontario.
How to confirm a site is actually licensed. Every internet gaming website offered by a fully registered and approved operator in Ontario displays iGaming Ontario and BetGuard logos. If you see these logos, you know the website operations are managed by iGaming Ontario and regulated by the AGCO. That's your quickest on-site check. The authoritative full list lives at the iGaming Ontario operator directory — a directory of all fully registered and authorized operators and their igaming sites is available via the iGaming Ontario website.
What registered operators have actually agreed to. To complete the registration steps, operators will have met rigorous standards of game integrity, fairness, player protections, and social responsibility. That includes mandatory responsible-gambling tools: every regulated gaming site in Ontario has its own unique tools that must meet the AGCO Registrar's Standards for Internet Gaming — at a minimum, operators must provide spend-limit and time-limit setting tools and the ability to take a short-term break or to self-exclude for a longer term.
On the self-exclusion front, Ontario now has a centralized option: all igaming operators in Ontario participate in BetGuard, a tool that allows people to opt out of all regulated online gambling in Ontario. It's available at betguard.ca and covers every licensed operator in a single request — useful to know exists, even if you never need it. If you ever want to talk to someone, ConnexOntario (1-866-531-2600) is the province's 24/7 mental health and addictions line.
Bottom line for Ottawa players: pick any site showing the iGaming Ontario and BetGuard logos, confirm you're 19+, and you're operating squarely within the regulated market.
